Double Bass and Composition

Cristobal Pinto is a music composer and double bass player, born in Mexico, raised in Guatemala and now living in Hannover, Germany.

His cultural/musical backround it’s full of artistic variety.  His father was a classical piano performer, wich influenced Cristobal as a kid to start his musical path with this intrument to perform classical music. Later on he learned by himself to play guitar and then started to compose rock music. In his adolescence woke his interest for jazz music and learned self taught to play double bass.

 

After his arrival in Germany, his technique on the double bass was been highly influenced by his professor: Michael Gudenkauf, while studying at the Hochschule für Musik Theater und Medien Hannover. 

In the course of his carrer he has collaborated with international artists in America and Europe such as: Adi Meyerson,  Jonatan Morgenstern, Elaia Quartett, Tudo Azul, Christoph Wirz, Contanze Nogueira, Mauricio Hölzemann, Lukas Ankintaya, Maxine Troglauer, Alberto Menendez, Steve Sinko, Daniel Lopez Trio, Imox Jazz, Bongmin Yoon, Dina Ramirez and Jugend Philarmonischer Orchester Niedersachsen (JPON). 


On the other hand he has performed at festivals/venues such as:  PODIUM – Esslingen, Jazz Club Hannover, Birdland – Hamburg, Bünte Bühne Musik Fest – Hannover, Münster Jazz Festival, EMF Guatemala, La Fete de la Musique, Guatemala Jazz Festival, Jalisco Jazz Festival, among others. 


He’s also award winner of high prestige scholarships such as Gundlach Musik Preis (Deutschland, 2023) and Berklee Celebrity Scholarship (USA, 2018). 


Untill this day he has released two albums with his original composition: Deja Vu (2017) and Maneki Neko (2018), wrote a educational book dedicated to improvisation and creative use of scales (Tipzz Vol.1) and participated in live performances that includes not only his passion for Jazz Music, but also his heritage as Latinamerican Musician.
